About

Hi.  I’m Laura Zavelson.  That’s my daughter Caitlin in the picture with me — she’s almost 9.  I have a son Brandon, 6, a husband, Bill and Max the Dog.  The photo was taken Summer 2008 on the Canada side of Niagara Falls.

We live in Chapel Hill, NC.  I love good food, wine, restaurants and travel. I wrote a book a few years ago called Evenings for Two in the Triangle: Your guide to food, fine dining and fun.  It continues today as a blog about great local things to do and places to eat.

But you can’t eat out every night.  So I started this blog — Rock the Dinner Rush — about getting healthy meals on the table fast.

I’m also a working mom–I co-founded a creative services firm called Calliope — so I know what it’s like go from office to make dinner/help with homework/get everyone settled down and ready for bed. And if you’re like me, the point is to eat dinner as a family — not host the Emeril show from your kitchen.  Besides we really don’t have room for a band in there.

On the blog I review recipes from popular magazines and post the greatest hits from cookbooks, and my own personal stash of recipes that I’ve modified to be healthier and/or faster.  By the way, to make it onto the blog, it not only has to be fast and healthy — it has to taste good too!

I’m interested in feedback and suggestions.  I hope you enjoy the recipes and eating well.  Cheers!
